With warm weather here to stay there's at least one thing that's certain to follow: Kitten season. In an effort to promote adoption of cats of all ages, the Austin Humane Society this weekend will kick off it's kitty cat Summer of Love, with free, and reduced rate, adoption specials.
Indeed, AHS, the city's oldest no-kill facility, currently has 80 kittens and cats ready to find their forever homes – and are expecting more cats to be coming in as the summer progresses. "We are expecting more than 175 kittens to come through our shelter doors in the next two weeks," said Frances Jonon, AHS executive director. The shelter has cats ranging in age from just a few weeks to more than 10 years old and needs help to find them loving homes, she said.
To get the ball rolling, AHS this weekend will be offering free adoptions of all adult cats at the shelter and will be reducing the adoption fee to just $10 for cats under one year. "By adopting one of these cats, you'll help us fight animal homelessness – and find a wonderful new member of your family," Jonon said.
The shelter's special adoption promotion runs from Friday, May 24 through Monday, May 27 at the shelter in North Central Austin.
