NORML: Tell Biden to Back Off Pot

Want to help ensure that marijuana legalization takes effect in Washington and Colorado with minimal (if any) static from the federal government?

If so,NORML wants you to sign on to a petition its posted on the White House petition site, urging the Obama administration to tell Vice President Joe Biden to back off and respect voters' will and state sovereignty.

Indeed, according to Kevin Sabet, a former White House adviser on marijuana policy, there are "not many friends to legalization in this administration," he told Rolling Stone. Moreover, he said that Biden, who actually coined the term "drug czar" as the snazzy title for the head of the White House Office of Drug Control Policy, still drives the White House's "hard-line drug policy," reads the article. "As long as he is vice president," Sabet told the magazine, "we're very far off from legalization being a reality."

In response NORML is asking folks to sign onto a petition telling Biden to "end his war on marijuana users" and to let Colorado and Washington do as voters have instructed to tax and regulate pot. As of this morning 6,544 had signed and 18,456 signatures are still needed, by Jan. 9, 2013, to reach 25,000 the trigger mark that will force an answer to the petition by the White House.
