Smith Wins Again

By Monica Riese, June 11, 2012, 5:25pm, Newsdesk

For the second time in as many years, Austin Chronicle staff writer Jordan Smith is bringing home a Planned Parenthood Federation of America Maggie Award.

Specifically, Jordan is being honored for her story "The Destruction of Texas Health Care," Feb. 3, 2012. In those pages, she carefully lays out the state of women's health in the wake of the legislative budget cuts, relying on her extensive expertise and dogged determination to bring readers the truth.

The Maggie Awards are named after PPFA founder Margaret Sanger and are awarded each year to those who have demonstrated exceptionalism in women's health coverage. Incidentally, Jordan also won a 2011 Maggie Award for last year's "The War on Women's Health," April 22, 2011.

"I am once again honored to have our work recognized by the Planned Parenthood Federation of America," Jordan says. She hopes to be on hand to accept her award in Washington, D.C., on July 11.
