APA Votes For Status Quo

By Jordan Smith, November 11, 2011, 5:40pm, Newsdesk

Preliminary election results reveal that Austin Police officers have voted to keep their incumbent president.

Sources tell us that Sgt. Wayne Vincent has won his re-election race for president of the Austin Police Association, the APD officers' union. He defeated challenger Cpl. Mike Bowen, who had been serving as the union's VP. That spot has been won by Sgt. Todd Harrison, also president of the state union, the Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas.

Cop shop watchers thought there might be an upset in the race for Vincent's spot because of discontent among the ranks over Vincent's push to purchase a union hall without first vetting the deal with members.

Harrison, who will assume the VP spot, also was the center of a bit of controversy this summer connected to his using association business leave time to cover his salary while he was off working on CLEAT business.
