This, and more animal welfare news

The Humane Society of Williamson County reports that its recent successes in helping to rescue animals from local puppy mills has prompted one Bell County breeder to ask the no-kill facility to help him close his doors.
The breeder has agreed to close his long-time breeding business in favor of finding healthy homes for more than 25 pups, the HSWC reports. "After many years of breeding dogs, my family and I felt it was unfair for these dogs to spend their lives living in a kennel," the breeder said in a press release. HSWC is currently assessing the medical needs of the rescued pups and is asking for donations to their Emory Bellard Memorial Fund to help offset the cost of spay/neutering, microchipping and vaccinating the dogs. Donations to that fund can be made here.
In other news, the Austin Humane Society has once again teamed up with Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf for a fundraiser to benefit the local no-kill nonprofit. Stop by any Coffee Bean from Oct. 28 through Nov. 11 and make at least a $1 donation to receive a wristband that will get you 10% off any prepared beverage through Nov. 30. You can find out more about that fundraiser here.
Finally, for those of you who just can't resist a good pet costume, the AHS has an online contest going on now. Click here to vote.
