Speaking of elections: A steering committee in support of Travis County Propositions 1 and 2 was announced this week, encouraging voters to do the “Travis Two-Step” this November.
A little background: At $133 million, Prop 1 pays for safety improvements on roadways and bridges, school routes, sidewalks, and flood prevention; Prop 2, at $82 million, goes to open space acquisition and water quality protection.
The Travis Two-Step steering committee is comprised of many of the boldface names you’d expect: transpo proponent Hill Abell; consultant Mike Blizzard; Hispanic contracting powerbroker Frank Fuentes; consultant Jeff Hahn; zoning and real estate attorney Nikelle Meade; consultant Mark Nathan; open space advocate Ted Siff; contractor Channy Soeur, and several others. In Fact Daily reports Blizzard and Nathan are providing consulting help to the campaign, while Democratic organizer Katherine Haenschen (who has some choice words on that other election) is serving as campaign manager.
A list of projects can be found on the Travis Two-Step website. Early voting is set to begin October 24, with Election Day falling on November 8.
