F1 lawsuit against Comptroller Combs to cause pile-up at council?

Another twist in the road for Formula One
Another twist in the road for Formula One

If the road to council approval of Formula One wasn't bumpy enough already, this pothole has bust open: a lawsuit against state comptroller Susan Combs, seeking to prevent her from releasing state funds to the racing giant.

The lawsuit filed today against Combs contends she overstepped her boundaries offering Formula One Racing $25 million in state funds before the City of Austin got involved, among other allegations.

The suit is brought by Audits in the Public Interest's Richard Viktorin – last seen speaking before council against the agreement – Dr. Ewa Siwak, described as "an AISD teacher whose 3-year contract was canceled as a result of cuts in budgets for public education;" and Del Valle ISD school board member Richard Franklin III. The suit was filed was filed in Travis County district court today by attorney Bill Aleshire.

As we noted at the onset, this latest development makes it look like an F1 decision tomorrow is increasingly unlikely.
