While the evening's results decidedly weren't what Randi Shade was looking for, you wouldn't have been able to tell that judging from her supporters: The scene at Galaxy Cafe was boisterous and celebratory, even if Shade and her staff were clustered in one corner of the cafe, nervously refreshing election results.

Despite Tovo's total edging perilously close to an outright majority, Shade said she never considered bowing out of a run-off. Instead, she gave a preview of issues she says she'll address in that election.

“When you’re running only against one other person, it's a lot easier to look at it issue by issue, where we have different views,” she says. “When it comes to Water Treatment Plant No. 4 and water security, and long term infrastructure investment, we have a difference of opinion. When it comes to our approach to land use decisions, we have a different approach.”
