The Daily Hustle: 4/6/11
Austin Energy meeting on residential rates
By Wells Dunbar, 9:35AM, Wed. Apr. 6, 2011
Sure, those urban rail open houses have been getting all the fancy ads and city publicity, but didya know the city's soliciting input on Austin Energy's rate changes? And one of their more important meetings is tonight?!? I bet not!
The city's seeking input for their planned rate adjustment, which encompasses charges on the electric bill other than the fuel charges; it will be the first change in 17 years. To that end, they've enlisted a public involvement committee tasked with getting the word out and asking for feedback.
Tonight's meeting is a relatively big one, on residential rate structures, and therefore will take up some of the issues specific to those ratepayers, including discounts for low-income residents.
Heady stuff, for sure. The more adventurous among us may wish to delve into the 48 page white paper prepared for this very topic. But important stuff too.
The meeting's occurring tonight, 6pm, at the Austin Energy Building, 721 Barton Springs.
