Fun Fact: According to new stats from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the number of people popped for sending marijuana through the mail hit a record high of 1,278 folks in 2009.
A total of just more than 3,600 pot packages were seized nationwide – 75% of them sent from border states, including Texas, reports ABC News. The number of seizures, they say, has risen a whopping 400% since 2007. And, not surprisingly, the amount of marijuana seized – more than 43,000 pounds last year – also hit a record high. Meanwhile, however, the postal inspectors say that while pot shipments have increased, sending other drugs via the USPS – including cocaine and heroin – dropped last year.
