Weekend Election Update

Could election filings in Travis County get any slower? So far, there's a grand total of one actual primary next year: ex-Real Estate Council of Austin board member Paul Workman has filed in the Republican primary in House District 47, so it's him versus Holly White Turner to face presumed Democratic nominee Rep. Valinda Bolton next November.
Elsewhere on the ballot, the big news is that State Board of Education Dist. 10 member Cynthia Dunbar has stepped aside and named State Republican Executive Committee member Brian Russell as her heir apparent for the seat, which includes north Travis County. She probably should have run that past Round Rock teacher Rebecca Osborne, who already filed in that race. Meanwhile Republican Tim Tuggey and Democrat Robert Bohmfalk both want a shot at Republican Tim Mercer's District 5 seat, which covers the south of the county.
