UPDATE: Rose's SBOE Bill Fails Again
Attempt to put board under Sunset review narrowly defeated on third reading

Updating yesterday's posting on back-from-the-brink-of-death battle over Patrick Rose's HB 710: It's dead again.
The Dripping Springs representative wanted to put the State Board of Education under the Sunset Review process, and yesterday the bill initially failed second reading 68-72 but then passed a verification vote 74-68. But today, conservatives apparently mustered the troops and killed it on third reading, 73-71.
"Unfortunately, several of our votes weren't on the floor of the chamber today," Rose told me afterward. "I think Texas taxpayers and students lost today."
