COUNCIL MEMBERS MOURN SUDDEN DEATH OF JENNIFER GALE

Cause of Death Unknown

Austin City Council Member Lee Leffingwell expressed shock and sadness upon learning of the death of Jennifer Gale early today (Wednesday, December 17, 2008).

"I just saw Jennifer last night at a holiday party," Leffingwell said. "I am grateful that I had a chance to wish her 'Merry Christmas' before she passed away."

Leffingwell chaired a meeting of the Council's Public Health and Human Services Subcommittee yesterday (Tuesday, December 16, 2008) where Gale sang "Silent Night" to the committee members.

"Jennifer was an inspirational participant in civic discourse - at City Hall, on the campaign trail, and in the community," Leffingwell said. "I hope the memory of her consistent involvement in the affairs of this City will become a powerful legacy for others. She will be sorely missed."

"The news of her passing reminds me that we have scores of Austinites spending some very cold nights without the benefit of heat or shelter," said Council Member Mike Martinez. "Because of all she brought to the proceedings of the City Council, I hope her passing is a reminder to this Council that we have work to do in helping the homeless in Austin."
