The Four-Day Weekend

Road and agency closures for Thanksgiving

Closed for the weekend
Closed for the weekend

Apparently there's some kind of holiday going on, so it's probably worth a quick reminder of what will and won't be happening over the next two day.

All state agencies, city adminsitrative offices, libraries, city museums, recreation and senior citizens centers will be closed Nov. 27-28.

There'll be no refuse collections on Thanksgiving: That slips back one day, so for this week any homes regularly scheduled for Thursday wait until Friday, and Friday slips back to Saturday.

And as if traveling on Thanksgiving wasn't enough of a headache: Because of the UT/A&M football game, the usual streets will be closed (E. 18th from San Jacinto to Brazos Street: E. 17th from San Jacinto to Trinity: and San Jacinto through UT). Add on that the 18th Annual Thundercloud Subs Turkey Trot from 7am to 11am, covering the area from Trinity to West Lynn and Sixth to 12th.

For anyone using the bus: Capmetro will be running a Sunday service on Thursday, and Saturday service on Friday.

Of course, it's not Thanksgiving without giant inflatables, and that's where Saturday morning's Chuy's Parade comes in. The cavacade starts in front of the State Capitol at 11am, and goes all the way to Cesar Chavez. Bring a toy to donate to Operation Blue Santa.
