Press release from Capital Metro:

Ride Free On Election Day
Capital Metro to Waive Fares for Voters on March 4
Austin, Texas, February 29, 2008 –Central Texas voters will have an easy option for getting to the polls on Election Day for the Texas Primary. Capital Metro will offer free rides on all bus routes on Tuesday, March 4 for people who display their voter registration card.

The Authority decided to offer free rides on Election Day after St. Edwards Graduate Student Elise Flick suggested the idea to Austin City Council and Capital Metro Board Member
Brewster McCracken.

“Elise is an inspiring local example of how young people are shaping the presidential election like never before,” said McCracken. “I'm proud that Elise approached Capital Metro with this idea to get as many people as possible to the polls, and I'm proud that Capital Metro is making it happen.”

Destination signs on all buses will include a message about the free rides as a reminder to passengers.

Customers can plan their route to the polls using Capital Metro’s convenient online trip planner at www.capmetro.org, or by calling (512) 474-1200.
