Circle C Democrats Inaugural Meeting Saturday

Dems assert themselves in Republican stronghold

How badly are things going for the Republicans these days? This bad: even Democrats down in Circle C are beginning to assert themselves. Here's a press release we received announcing the formation of the Circle C Area Democrats:

Congressman Lloyd Doggett and State House Representative Valinda Bolton to Speak As the Heated Primary Race Continues

All Circle C and surrounding area Democrats are invited to this opportunity to meet with two of their most dedicated and well known representatives. Congressman Lloyd Doggett and State House Representative Valinda Bolton will be guest speakers at the kick off meeting of the Circle C Area Democrats Saturday March 1, 2008 at 3pm – 9012 Lantana Way, Austin, TX 78749.
More analysis below the fold.

Traditionally southwest Austin and Circle C were considered a stronghold of far-right Republicanism. However, with the recent influx of “out of towners” and locals from other parts of Austin there is a change in idealism and the number of registered democrats has increased in this area of Austin. Ed Scruggs, an organizer of the new group explains “The Circle C Area Democrats want to grow the party in Southwest Austin, educate voters and act as a campaign information resource for all Democrats on the March 4 primary ballot. There is an excitement this year among local Democrats. We can make a difference in a close race.”

Door prizes (including flags that have flown over the Texas and US Capitals) will be given away. There will also be discussion about plans for primary day and mapping out short and long term goals.
