By now, the lucky 2,000 who managed to beg, borrow or campaign for a ticket for Thursday's Clinton/Obama debate are busy bragging about it (no, don't ask us, we don't have any spares. Seriously.) But what about everyone else who doesn't want to watch policy wonkery alone?
For the well-heeled and well-connected (but not connected enough to get into the auditorium,) the Texas Democratic Party will be holding their watch party at the Hyatt Regency Austin, 208 Barton Springs Road, 6.30pm. Tickets $50, $35 for Texas Majority Builders.
[UPDATE: The TDP has confirmed that Clinton and Obama will both be attending this event after the debate, around 9pm.]
[SECOND UPDATE: TDP have confirmed this is now sold out.]
For those who don’t feel like spending the big bucks (or who just prefer a solid beer selection) Keep Austin Blue have a candidate-neutral watch party at Mother Egan's Irish Pub, 715 W. Sixth (6.30pm).
But if you’re feeling all Illinois, Texans for Obama will be holding a rally and watch party at Scholz Garten, 1607 San Jacinto starting 5pm. It seems to be simultaneous with Laura Morrison’s fundraiser for her city council run, so stick around for their scheduled appearance from Ray Wylie Hubbard.
Of course, this being Austin, the Alamo South Lamar is opening their doors for a non-partisan viewing party. National Public Radio will be in attendance for audience response. It's free, but a $10 food and drink voucher ensures a seat.
More parties as we hear about them.
