10,000 Pound Burrito: Chased With 500 Pound Beano Tablet?

Think they'll be any leftovers?

We're normally weary of these press releases which are really thinly-veiled advertisements, but you have to applaud the vision of this bunch. An excerpt:

Mark your calendars for October 13, 2007, as several Austin area volunteers and Casa Chapala Restaurant will build a 10,000 pound burrito! Proceeds raised will benefit the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the National Hispanic Professional Organization, the Boys and Girls Club and other fine charities. (Question: Does the Chamber of Commerce really need to cake off a charity event? This gived me a little heartburn – ed.)

The “Central Texas Scholarship Fiesta” will commemorate ‘Dia de La Raza’ and kick off with a golf tournament on Friday, October 12, at the Roy Kiser golf course. Saturday’s burrito building event will take place at the Krieg Complex. The burrito is projected to break the current Guinness World Record of the World’s Largest Burrito. Donations for the charities will be taken during the historical two day event.

As for the burrito? Here's some stats:

The world record burrito will include over 2,000 pounds of chicken, 3,000 pounds of rice, 3,000 pounds of beans, 2,000 pounds of cheese, 250 gallons of salsa, and 7,000 tortillas.

Here's an idea: Why not build the burrito down at the ARCH and leave it for the hungry souls there?
