Pulling the Plug on 'Crisis Pregnancy Centers'
Elliott Naishtat tries to defund Crisis Pregnancy Centers
By Wells Dunbar, 2:39PM, Thu. Mar. 29, 2007
Elliott Naishtat is fighting the good fight with an amendment to House Bill 1, the massive budget bill. Amendment 20 would take fundings from phony crisis pregnancy centers and channel them into health care for poor mothers and families. Jordan Smith's reporting for the Austin Chronicle has come up on the floor a few times ("The New Texas Family Planning"). A needed bill, but one which, alas, looks unlikely to pass.
… And it's tabled. Thanks for trying, Elliott.
