Daily Music: High Bias
ACL Review: Eliot Sumner
Well-documented by now, being the scion of a famous musician can prove a curse. Eliot Sumner, daughter of Gordon “Sting” Sumner, chooses a third option.

Scientists Revisited on A Place Called Bad
Credited/blamed for grunge, Australia’s intrepid Scientists made an impact on alt-rock disproportionate to their reach. Reviled at home, the quartet’s albums rarely reached the colonies. Happily, the 4-CD A Place Called Bad makes a case for the band by including most of their studio recordings and all of the negative energy that made them iconoclastic.

Boogarins é Foda
Boogarins’ pop smarts, psychedelic atmospherics, and South American rhythms won over locals at both South by Southwest and Austin Psych Fest. Levitation Kick-Off
If you checked social media Thursday night, you’d think the Reverb Appreciation Society had declared war on its fans in the wake of Levitation’s cancellation. At the three festival kick-off shows last night, the mood was decidedly ... chill. No angry conversations, no crossed-arms in the crowds. Everyone seemed to take the loss of Levitation in stride.

Kings of avant-garde drone, Sunn O))) overwhelms Austin this weekend for the first time in 14 years. That’s in support of Kannon, the Seattle metallers’ first non-collaborative LP since 2009 and one that hearkens back to the group’s ambient grunge.
