King Gizz, Jesus & Mary Chain, Osees, W.I.T.C.H., and L7 Emerge on Levitation 2022 Lineup

The four nights leading up to Halloween in Austin are set to be packed with cult favorite bands, trippy light shows, and music-minded travelers as Levitation again descends into the city’s downtown and Eastside club space.

Australia’s King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, who first played at the Austin event when they were a relative unknown, headline two nights of the largely individually-ticketed festival’s biggest venue: Stubb’s. Meanwhile, fellow Levitation vets Osees will see play to four nights of crowd surfers at their usual stomping grounds of Hotel Vegas’ backyard. Scottish Psychocandy makers The Jesus and Mary Chain also slot as marquee booking at the seven-venue event (playing Thursday with Detroit’s Protomartyr opening!), as does a two show Mohawk run from British and Swedish post-punk groups Shame and Viagra Boys. Among the other names on the 59-act announcement: timeless Brazilian rock project Os Mutantes and African Zamrock progenitors W.I.T.C.H., grunge badasses L7, Canadian post rockers Godspeed You Black Emperor, noisey darkwave-ists Cold Cave, Aussie psych rockers Babe Rainbow, London indie-pop sound-collagists Superorganism, hard-charging French trio Slift, Moon Duo doing a 3-D audio/visual performance, Keith Morris’ punk unit OFF!, and – of course – flagship band the Black Angels.

There’s a lot to digest, so here’s the poster:

The highly-curated run of concerts, happening from Oct 27 to Oct 30, adds Parish and Antone’s to returning venues Stubb’s, Mohawk, Empire, Hotel Vegas, and Scoot Inn. As you can see from the “Special Guest TBA’s” on the schedule – there are more show announcements forthcoming. Tickets for announced shows are available now and a small number of 4 Day Passes are too. Some fans on Instagram have noted that the festival-wide 4 Day Passes are only available in a deluxe package that costs, after fees and taxes, $983.85, to which Levitation representatives explained: “95% of attendees purchase single show tickets. Rather than try to accommodate hundreds of weekend wristbands and potentially diminish the show experience in small clubs, we’ve decided to just make a very very limited number of Deluxe 4 Day Passes available. Having lots of 4 Day Passes available was too much to track across the weekend and problematic in smaller venues.”

Levitation’s lineup also reps a nice selection of Austin-based bands and artists, including Mujeres Podridas, Fuck Money, Ringo Deathstarr, Temple of Angels, A Giant Dog, Heartless Bastards, Pleasure Venom, Amplified Heat, Daiistar, Blushing, Tear Dungeon, Alex Maas, and the afformentioned Black Angels.
