Local Band Goons Revisit Video Dating

Before Tinder, Bumble,, and Flat Earth Singles, hopeless singles posed in front of unflatteringly bright backdrops, starred into the camera, and delivered spiels aimed to attract the partner of their dreams. Now, Eighties video dating gets another look via a new clip from Austin’s Goons.

The pop trio enlists Kady Rain and members of Age of Innocence, Dream Data, and Kalimocho to strive for love connections in “Take All My Money.” That irresistible synth-pop cut from May’s debut LP Year of the Goon fits snugly with the video’s theme via its deliciously bubblegum chorus:

Ooh baby,
You drive, you drive, you drive me crazy.
Oh honey,
You can take it all, take all my money.”

“‘Take All My Money’ is a song about blindly falling in love, that feeling of completely losing yourself in someone else,” writes the band, adding that they sought a video concept where they could make fun of themselves. “Our hope is that people smile when they watch our videos, and maybe take themselves a little less seriously.”

“Take All My Money” premieres here:
