Mohawk Pulls Plug Mid Ghostemane Show

By Kevin Curtin, November 20, 2019, 10:35am, Earache!

On Tuesday night, Mohawk management stopped its concert before the headlining act – trap/metal/industrial artist Ghostemane – took the stage.

Fan footage on social media shows opener Horus the Astroneer, performing on the floor of the venue to a crowd that doesn’t appear to be matching his energy, becoming irate over the volume of the sound mix.

“What the fuck is going on? Turn the fucking sound up,” ordered the rapper. “This is pussy shit!”

Later, Horus – evidently the brother of Florida rocker/rapper Ghostemane (aka Eric Whitney) – asked the sound engineer for a new microphone.

“This is fucking disrespectful,” he said, visibly angry. “Yo, fuck this venue.”

Concertgoer Anthony Van Atten, a fan of Ghostemane, told the Chronicle that after Horus repeatedly complained about the sound, the Mohawk’s audio engineer lowered the volume and later shouted at the artist to “stop whining.” Van Atten reported that Horus then stormed off to the side of the stage where “a hoard of security tackled Horus and he went face down into the pavement with a bloody nose.”

In a comment responding to Mohawk’s notice of cancellation on Instagram later that night, Ghostemane accused the venue’s security of assaulting his brother:

“Why didn’t you mention the part where everything was completely normal at the show until you initiated the situation by assaulting my brother with 4 members of your staff holding down and beating him.”

The Chronicle reached out to Mohawk management for their account and clarification on who initiated the physical altercation, but hasn’t yet received a response.

The main support act, Philadelphia hardcore unit Jesus Piece, performed after Horus. After they finished, police arrived and the crowd learned that the remainder of the concert, a C3 Presents booking, had been canceled. Soon after, Ghostemane posted, then deleted this explanation on Instagram:

Mohawk then issued a statement, reading, in part:

“This was purely a safety issue driven by an altercation and the subsequent escalating aggression inside and outside of our venue that forced us to take action. We have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to open threats or anything that could threaten the safety or well being of our customers or staff. Unfortunately this happened, and we were forced to pull the plug and contact the authorities in order to ensure all parties were safe and accounted for.”

Ghostemane then offered this aside in a comment on Mohawk’s post: “They cancelled my show because they’re scared of a guy who wears makeup and women’s clothes.”
