SXSW Music Steps Up Ninth Artist List

With now just 18 days until South by Southwest Music week swings into action, the fest’s booking picks up the pace, adding 157 acts, including soft-touch songwriter Michelle Zauner, aka Japanese Breakfast, Canadian troupe Broken Social Scene, and poppy roots-rock outfit Judah & the Lion.

Also on deck for the 32nd annual media conference: Philly mood folk act Strand of Oaks, busy beat-maker Shigeto, ex-Black Lips and Diamond Rugs singer/guitarist (Ian) Saint Pé, Dallas bedroom pop eclectics Skirts, and Welsh rock trio the Joy Formidable. Meanwhile, Ambar Lucid, a New Jersey teen who’s grabbing attention with her high, rich-with-feeling voice and bilingual songwriting, slots in as a up-and-comer of note.

The fest’s ninth artist announcement arrives particularly pregnant with hometown talent, counting 35 Austin acts: A. Sinclair, A Giant Dog, Ancient River, Annabelle Chairlegs, Ben Aqua, Big Cedar Fever, Billy King & the Bad Bad Bad, Black Pumas, Blood, Carrie Fussell, Collin Russell Mullins, Crack Pipes, Damak, Delle Sorelle, DJ Breezah & DJ Lolo, Fix8, Fragile Rock,Grizz, Hayes Carll, Harvest Thieves, the Hermits, Honey & Salt, Johnny Nicholas, My Education, Nevernude, the Oysters, Scott Collins, Sharon Bourbonnais, Smiile,Soundmass, Suspirians, TC Superstar, Trouble in the Streets, Why Bonnie, and Will Courtney.
