SXSW Music Adds 80 Acts

By Kevin Curtin, January 31, 2019, 10:00am, Earache!

With South by Southwest’s Music conference just 39 days away, the fest adds another 80 acts this week. True songwriter’s songwriter Steve Earle has signed on to revisit Austin the week of March 11-17. So has Easy Life, the burgeoning UK quintet whose tasty indie pop, with hip-hop delivery, got them inked to Island Records.

Also added in this sixth lineup drop, is Blur guitarist Graham Coxon, whose long solo career recently sprouted the soundtrack for popular Netflix dark teen comedy The End of the F***ing World. Sarah Shook & the Disarmers, one of the most exciting up-and-coming artists in country, signs on as well, alongside rock & roll revelators Banditos, Americana songster and recent Blaze (Foley) star Ben Dickey, Nashville bar rockers Thelma & the Sleaze, dancehall OG General Smiley, and Too Free, which features Merchandise singer Carson Cox.

Chung Ha and Ikon bolster SXSW’s staple K-pop contingent, which now includes Kirara, an ascending electronic musician from Seoul. More docket add-ons: New York City’s the Wants, who mix post-punk with minimalist techno, rowdy garage groovers Frankie & the Witch Fingers, melodic rock/power-pop quartet Criminal Hygiene, Sixties-loving rock gang the Nude Party, rootsy indie rocker Andy Jenkins, and Chicago trash-pop outfit Dehd.

Country-kissed Carson McHone and Christy Hays, plus newly minted Texas Piano Man Robert Ellis, lead a local list that also includes Adam Ostrar, Blxpltn, Buhu, Deanna Wheeler, DJ Hella Yella, Kevin Galloway, Longriver, and immortal heavy jammers Tia Carrera.
