SXSW Unveils Third Artist List

Bedouine, Priests, Mystery Lights, Kokoko!, and 297 more

South by Southwest continues to stack emerging talent for its 2019 Music conference with this morning’s cull of 300 artists that’s thick with Austin buzz acts – Molly Burch, Abhi the Nomad, the Teeta – and international intrigues including Dublin song crafter Hillary Woods and progressive alt-Africa group Kokoko!

The 33rd annual convergence, March 11-17 throughout the Texas state capital, also sent invitations to Azniv Korkejian, aka song whisperer Bedouine; D.C. DIY specialists Priests; increasingly experimental Swedish rapper Yung Lean; and NYC garage-punk hook mongers Mystery Lights, stars of Daptone subsidiary Wick Records. Combined with a previous list that came out in November, this reveal brings SXSW’s running total to nearly 700 acts.

Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, who released a new album called Rocket last year, also appear on today’s announcement, as do NYC post-punk cult act the Bush Tetras, Centro-matic and Marie/Lepanto song-stirrer Will Johnson, and Bella Union crew E.B. the Younger, featuring Eric Pulido of Midlake.

Taiwanese post-rockers No Party for Cao Dong book passage on a wave of sold-out shows, while Jvcki Wai rides high on new single “Finish Line” with fellow South Korean rapper Jay Park. Other global teases claiming a spot at SXSW 2019 include Dutch art-pop soloist Bea1991, who’s gotten a co-sign from Dev Hynes; Ireland’s smooth grungers Fangclub; Ghanaian rapper M3nsa; Berlin synth-pop krautrocker Sofia Portanet; and Melbourne electronic duo Two People.

Stateside names looking to turn ears in March include magic singer Erin Rae, emotionally compelling indie rockers Illuminati Hotties, Father/Daughter Records pop savant Sir Babygirl, and Americana captivator Esther Rose from New Orleans.

Meanwhile, SXSW’s third list represents the largest inventory of Austin artists, showcasing: AAerial, Being Dead, Buhu, the Bvtcher, Critical Assembly, Death of a Dream, DJ Confucius Jones, the Dojo, Fire from the Gods, Hikes, Invoke, Jeff Lofton, Jon Dee Graham, J Soulja, Kalu & the Electric Joint, Los Coast, the Lagoons, Lou Rebecca, Lug, Mama Duke, Moving Panoramas, Mr. Lewis & the Funeral 5, Rebecca Loebe, Superfónicos, Tarik Hassan, Tetractys, Thalea String Quartet, Ume, and Zack Varner.
