SXSW’s Big Third List

YFN Lucci, Wyclef Jean, Ought, and 572 more

In one gargantuan list, South by Southwest programmers have stocked more than a quarter of the music lineup for the March mega conference. Big names include “Everyday We Lit” rapper YFN Lucci, Fugees Haitian Wyclef Jean, and Canadian post-punk breakouts Ought.

Other notable additions to SXSW’s Music week, running March 12-18, include heavy shoegaze trio A Place to Bury Strangers, L.A. rapper Duckwrth, soulful R&Bist Son Little (aka RJD2/Roots collaborator Aaron Livingston), A-list sound mechanic Cut Chemist, Mozart in the Jungle actress and country/indie songwriter Lola Kirke (daughter of Bad Company drummer Simon Kirke), and dual-fronted heavy pop trio Sunflower Bean, who enjoyed a major breakout at SXSW 2016.

Today’s 575 artists, bringing SXSW’s running total to roughly 948, also foreshadow an ultra-rare performance of British post-classical composer Max Richter’s eight-hour ambient sequence entitled Sleep, during which it’s normal, if not intended, for listeners to doze off.

Other international intrigues include UK troubadour Frank Turner, Brit-pop royalty in Supergrass singer Gaz Coombes, Korean hip-hop duo XXX, catchy Spanish garage rock quartet Hinds, and young Irish vintage rockers the Strypes.

Today’s list also sends invitations to 75 homegrown acts, including Grupo Fantasma, Scott H. Biram, Ghost Wolves, Kelly Willis, Carson McHone, Magna Carda, Residual Kid, the Teeta, Löwin, the Wild Now, Wood & Wire, Indrajit Banerjee, and Kalu & the Electric Joint.
