SXSW List 8

Peanut Butter Wolf, Kasey Chambers, White Denim and 147 more

South by Southwest looms just 21 days away, so the lineup ticks toward completion, while big names remain reserved for a March reveal. Today’s confirmation, including Stones Throw mastermind Peanut Butter Wolf, pop charmers Royal Teeth, Aussie songbird Kasey Chambers, and local rockers White Denim, adds grist for the mill.

Kasey Chambers

Also counted among the 150 new additions are Houston-based old school Thai funk specialists Khruangbin, Norton Records blues howler Daddy Long Legs, buzzing Long Island bro act the Lemon Twigs, emerging folk rocker Max Gomez, and Y2K one-hit wonder Crazy Town – probably reeling from the very recent retirement of vocalist/producer Bret Mazur (not the alarmingly musclular one). Also of note are Detroit hip-pop artist Flint Eastwood, five-time Grammy-nominated modular synth diva Suzanne Ciani, folk-rock troubadour Langhorne Slim, Cajun guitar fiend C.C. Adcock + Lafayette Marquis, experimental hip-hop producer Mndsgn, unique Austrian song crafter James Hersey, modest rapper MC Frontalot, and new school bubblegum pop singer Cappa.

Accordion-squeezing bayou songman Buckwheat Zydeco, who passed away last September, will be honored with a performance featuring his band Il Sont Partis and special guests. Another unusual performance: Masaki Kobayashi’s classic Japanese horror Kwaidan gets be re-scored by Austin’s Troller and Michael C. Sharp, Antoni Maiovvi & Timothy Fife, and Missions.

SXSW’s 30th year continues adding record numbers of Austin talent. Today’s bulletin stacks on almighty rock brothers Amplified Heat, Black Angels side project Christian Bland & the Revelators, rubbery shoegaze trio Ringo Deathstarr, and Redd Volkaert, potentially the finest country picker on the planet. Also checking in from the local front: Birdlegg, Jane Ellen Bryant, Cheap Fur, Andrea Dawson, DJ Trademark, Eastside Kings, Flying Turns, Shiela Gonzalez, Grav3y, Tree “Tree G” Grundy, Shunetra “BillieB” Kincheon, the Kraken Quartet, Lachane, Loki, Night Drive, Jeff Plankenhorn, Screamin’ J, Single Lash, Star Parks, Jackie Venson, Lindsey “Junior” West, and Moses “WrebleMuzik” Williams.

By our count, today’s announcement ups the SXSW ante to 1,593 acts. Expect two more weekly batches and late-breaking headliners.
