Expect significant crossover with ACL Fest

Booked by Austin promotions giant C3 Presents, which also stages the Austin City Limits Music Festival, summer music festival supreme Lollapalooza has given up its secrets, revealing 134 artists heading to Grant Park in Chicago July 31 through August 2.
Top billing goes to Beatles survivor Paul McCartney, thrash metal legacy Metallica, and pop grandiosity Florence + the Machine. Next on the poster are British soul-pop sensation Sam Smith, EDM wizard Bassnectar, and Canadian R&B futurist the Weeknd. The latter just showcased at South By Southwest. Other recent SXSWers tapped for Lolla include fast-rising MC Mick Jenkins, avant-rock royalty TV On the Radio, G-Eazy, A$AP Rocky, Catfish & the Bottlemen, Black Tiger Sex Machine, and Badbadnotgood.
Lolla’s band list remains a reliable a crystal ball for predicting talent at ACL Fest. Of the top 20 acts on the fall classic last year, 14 were also on Lollapalooza 2014, including headliners Outkast and Eminem. By that logic, don’t be surprised to see Metallica or Sir Paul gracing Austin in October.
Homegrown music booked for Chicago includes guitar slinger Gary Clark Jr., indie bard Shakey Graves, folk rockers Jamestown Revival, and big beat rock & roll duo Black Pistol Fire — all ACL Fest vets.
Lollapalooza weekend passes are sold out, but a limited batch of single-day tickets are available here.A note to readers: Bold and uncensored, The Austin Chronicle has been Austin’s independent news source for over 40 years, expressing the community’s political and environmental concerns and supporting its active cultural scene.
