SXSW Music List 10

The Damned, 2 Chainz, War on Drugs, and 242 more added

With the addition of 245 acts this morning, among them Gothic punk originators the Damned, psychedelic Americana artists the War on Drugs, and Georgia rapper 2 Chainz, South By Southwest’s artist tally crests the 2K mark, by our estimation: 2,188.

The annual music conference, now only 11 days away, also booked heartfelt synth quartet Future Islands, Alaskan rockers Portugal the Man, country chart-topper Wynonna Judd, and modern folk-rock songwriter Angel Olsen. Along with 2 Chainz, SXSW keeps its rap game tight with MC/beatmaker Madlib (aka Quasimoto), 20-year-old Brooklynite Joey Bada$$, and Grammy-nominated pop rapper B.o.B.

From across the pond comes British folkie Frank Turner (one of seven UK artists on this list) and Belgian pop sensation Stromae. Canada imports nine acts this round, the most interesting of which are Montreal MCs Loud Lary Ajust, who rap in French. Mexico sends five more bands, including fuzz blues duo Copper Gamins, and Venezuela gives us masked DJ Zardonic.

Locally, 30 more acts join the music conference, among them melodic punks Riverboat Gamblers, recent Chronicle coverboys DoWrong & Eric Dingus, former Johnny Cash pianist Earl Poole Ball, and Marcia Ball’s cosmic country survivors Freda & the Firedogs.

Also showcasing: Austin Alvarez, Bames, Aisha Burns, Cilantro Boombox, CJ the Best, Elsa Cross, Curtis Lee, DJ Brimlo, DJ D-Best, Drastic, Nubia Emmon, Tim Gunter, Christy Hays, How I Quit Crack, Kyleeil, Master Blaster Sound System, Mau Mau Chaplains, Jesse Moore, Night Drive, Obscured By Echos, Os Alquimistas, Leo Rondeau, Jonathan Terrell, Visto, Cane Laelo, and Whiteside & Lil Kane.
