Fun Fun Fun Live Shot: Wiz Khalifa
Trust your mofo MC

Slinking onstage fashionably late, Wiz Khalifa delivered highlights from August’s Blacc Hollywood to a comfortably numb crowd at the Blue stage Sunday night. The MC’s now infamous purple dreads peeked out from underneath his cap as he spun “Hope.” Looking down at the front row, he complimented them on the scent of their weed.

Critics grumble about the lack of depth in the material, but the rapper’s at his best dusted with flashy beats and grandiose hip-hop fantasy. “Work Hard Play Hard,” from sophomore disc O.N.I.F.C., mapped the night’s itinerary: “The bigger the bill, the harder you ball.” Tapping into a more somber tone, Khalifa marveled at his “House in the Hills.”
“You’re going to get there, too,” he swore.
Before things got too personal, hip-hop’s favorite stoner ditched the sentiment for “So High,” bragged on his wheels with “Foreign” from May’s 28 Grams mixtape, and let his dreads wiggle like purple earthworms on “Black and Yellow.” With five solo LPs and a slew of mixtapes, the wizard has an arsenal of party anthems at his disposal, and he flashed each one triumphantly. Plumes of smoke obscured “KK,” and the crowd constricted with the opening verse to “Young, Wild and Free.”
Taking a breath, he offered a cryptic piece of advice: “Before you trust anyone in this world, trust your motherfucking self.”
Considering the relentless coverage of the rapper’s split from his wife this summer, it’d be wise to take that with a grain of salt.
