Jack Wilson wrapped a new music video this week, one for the morose, contemplative “Rainbow/Tiger,” a cut off June’s Spare Key, the local songwriter’s second album. We liked what we saw when he sent it our way, so it premieres here. Wilson sent in a few words of inspiration to accompany the visuals.
“Last year, I traveled over 15,000 miles in four months, playing shows in 36 states. What I thought would be the most liberating weeks of my life ended up turning me on my head, and exposed the delusion of the successful tour.
“The video for ‘Rainbow/Tiger’ was an attempt to allegorically recreate, and capture some of the feeling of those months, and ostensibly years, I spent wandering.
“It was also the perfect excuse for a road trip with my friend, the filmmaker Ryan McMackin (Head and the Heart, Sera Cahoone), who used to drum with the Maldives. Says he: ‘West Texas was a place I had long wanted to explore and felt that the vacancy and singularity of the landscape and sky would compliment the qualities of the music.’”
