Wednesday Rewind

By Austin Powell, October 5, 2011, 2:24pm, Earache!

The Zoltars' Broken Rimbaud easily ranks among the more enticing and exciting new albums from Austin this year, ripe with catchy garage-psych curiosities and the nursery rhyme appeal of Syd Barrett. But you can't buy it in a record store or download it online (at least not yet).

Jared (Zoltar) Leibowich calls it a "visual album," a 27-minute YouTube video, directed by his brother, Alex, and with Alejandro Ovalle.

Okkervil River "Your Past Life as a Blast"
Will Sheff and company are nowhere to be found in this I Am Very Far highlight. The video's a washed out montage of old family vacations, which seems oddly familiar and fitting for the occasion.

Sarah Jarosz “Run Away”
Local folk darling Sarah Jarosz returned last month to the New England Conservatory, where she's studying contemporary improvisation. This summer though, in between an appearance at the Edmonton Folk Festival and guest spot on the radio show, The Civil Wars, Jarosz filmed this smoky video for "Run Away" from this year's Follow Me Down.
