Wednesday Rewind

Quiet Company gets Rock-afired, plus Darden Smith and Kydd Jones

There's a little something for everyone in this week's edition of Wednesday rewind. Quiet Company gets Rock-afired, the Invincible Czars bastardize Iron Maiden, and Austin rapper Kydd Jones makes his way through the locally shot “Jungle.”

Quiet Company, “The Biblical Sense of the Word”
Remember the animatronic band at Showbiz Pizza? Quiet Company just got the deluxe treatment for “The Biblical Sense of the Word,” a solid track from the locals' new EP, Songs for Staying In.

Kydd, “Jungle”
Thanks to South by Southwest booker Matt Sonzala for tipping his hat to this new video from Randell Jones, better known as Kydd, filmed by Wes Chmielowski and edited by Ellen Chmielowski. It's the first OTR had heard of the Austin rapper but it certainly won't be the last.
Darden Smith, “Mortal Coil”
Local songsmith Darden Smith is no stranger to living out of a suitcase. Directed by Michael Moss, the video for “Mortal Coil,” the standout number from Smith's excellent new album, Marathon, likewise explores the empty space and sense of displacement inherent in hotel rooms.
The Invincible Czars, “Number of the Beast”
No one commemorates the holidays quite like Austin's Invincible Czars. Every Halloween the oddballs tackle Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast. Guitarist (and apparent preacher) Josh Robins sent over this footage, a gospel rendering of the title track, from the band's show at Houston club Rudyard's last week.
