Wednesday Rewind

By Austin Powell, October 27, 2010, 12:05pm, Earache!

With Halloween right around the corner, it's only fitting that this edition of Wednesday Rewind offers a random grab bag of new tunes from the Black Angels, the Boxing Lesson, the Weird Weeds, and a rapping "Rick Perry." Word from the City Hall Hustler is that guy rolls deep.

The Boxing Lesson, "One"
We knew the Boxing Lesson likes to get high, but this Jeanne Hospod-animated "lo-fi cat dreamscape" video takes matters to another level. The band's excellent, cassette-only release, which has been in OTR's tape deck for weeks, is available now here.

The Weird Weeds, "Underground"
Local soundscrapers the Weird Weeds have a new album, Help Me Name Melody, which features this slightly psychedelic tonal poem and accompanying video, directed by Fernando Flores.

Rick Perry, "Money on My Mansion"
Fun Fun Fun Fest headliner "Weird Al" Yankovic would be proud of this political parody. It's worth a chuckle or two but, more importantly, serves as a reminder to VOTE!

The Black Angels, "Telephone"
This counter to the Black Angels' David Letterman appearance has been floating around since the release of the band's third LP, Phosphene Dream. The video was helmed by Oswald Jones, the director behind the Austin Psych Fest 3 documentary, which is being screened as part of Halloween at the Mohawk on Saturday with Wooden Shjips, the Growlers, Mondo Drag, and Austin's excellent Rayon Beach.
