Where the Girls Go/ATX: Let’s Dance

By Sarah Marloff, May 2, 2014, 10:30am, Qmmunity

It's Friday. As Rebecca Black says (insert high-pitched screech here) "everyone's looking forward to the weekend." She might be jail-bait, but the girl makes a solid argument. So let's cut to the chase: What are we doing this weekend?

Friday: Gotta get down on Friday, so forget Black and revisit the Ninetiess with GirlFriend, DJ Boi Toi, and DJ Zak Morri$ take us back to the saccharine sweet days of pop. Like a middle school dance all over again, except this time everyone’s out, sexy, and actually dancing. And Cheer Up Charlie's is, like, way cooler than your school gym. Totally.

Suggestion: GirlFriend recommends that you “Come dressed to sweat.” I say: JNCO Jeans + Midriffs + Belly button piercings + pig tails = add a touch of middle school flare.

Saturday: 3 Choices, 3 Flashbacks: Relive the days of Eighties/Nineties lezzie bar Chances as these queer ladies take over Cheer Up's for a musical Chances Happy Hour.

Maria's Taco Xpress doubles as dance floor tonight with Rusty's LezzDance.

And top off the evening with glamor at 27 Rue de Fleurus. For those of you who don't speak French, this is basically a fancy party done up ala Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas’ Left Bank Salon. Think 1920s Parisian fashion, food, cocktails and art, in honor of two celesbian idols.

Suggestion: Go big, carpool, and hit all three. Let's all agree to take as many cars off the road this weekend as we can, and only put sober drivers behind wheels.

Sunday: Not enough for you? Then chillax at Hyde Park Theater with Kiya Heartwood. This beloved singer-songwriter is sure to please with her one-woman show True Song Tales From the American Edge.

Suggestion: Stop listening to Rebecca Black. It's not Friday anymore.

See you on the dance floor, loves, and right here again next week.
