Where the Girls Go/ATX : Interactive Edition

By Sarah Marloff, March 6, 2014, 4:30pm, The Gay Place

In preparation for the insanity that is SXSW, I’ve been practicing how to function on only several hours of sleep a night. I suggest you do the same because, queers, it’s about to get serious here in ATX.

So put on your (comfortable but stylish) party shoes, and your caffeinated beverage of choice and get out there.

Friday: Kick off the weekend and SXSW with a #BigGay Party. In true Austin fashion this party is for everyone under the QILTBAG flag. But it wont just be ATX queers taking over Oilcan Harry’s and sippin’ on Frot Vodka, all the out-of-towners will be there too. Find a fling or a friend – either way consider the #BigGay Kickoff Party a one-stop-shop happy hour.

Suggestion: RSVP for free drinks and a VIG (Very Important Gay) Badge, and pick up a copy of the latest issue of The Agenda and gAyTX Fun Guide Map, produced by the Gay Place krewe. And *ta-da* you’re ready for SXSW.

For San Antonio and San Marcos vicinity queers: Come join us early and you can still make it to this month’s Rainbow Night in Bobcat land. Frot Vodka is making their way through the party circuit and is now a sponsor here, too. That means lots of local, gay-made vodka.

Saturday: Carpe Noctem, because no weekend is complete without dancing. Curated by some of Austin’s QTPOC, Saturday's Carpe is the second installment of the dance party meets sound installation meets performance space. Libations will be flowing, and with three DJs lined up, this underground party invites you to sweat it out on the dancefloor. Bodies will be moving; minds just might be blown.

Suggestion: Be watchful for X’s and wristbands, this party is 18 and up.

During daylight hours: SXSW Film. They film portion is all weekend long but my personal grrrl-friendly picks include the world premiere of the long-anticipated Veronica Mars movie. Yes TV's most awesome blonde sleuth finally returns to us.

Also on Saturday, an episode of the lesbionic web series, Little Horribles.

Not sold on my top picks? Of course, there's still more. Tell me yours! And you can find me here next week with even more queer grrrl SXSW events.
