We P.2
Kate & Andy go on a road trip

Journeys usually start with a setting of the scene, specifically, the homeplace. But how do you talk about a journey to a place that feels like a second home – a special geography of the heart that is no hero's journey, but rather more like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride via Exposé?
We’re en route, ostensibly, to see Prospect.2, the second iteration of the New Orleans art Biennial inaugurated by queermo-curator Dan Cameron (formerly of the New Museum in New York City). This version features 27 artists (local, national, and international) who takeover various art/history institutions and other “raw” spaces throughout the Crescent City. We said raw, ew. As intrepid artsplorers (double-ew) we’re going to see as much of the biennial as possible. The pull of Joyce J. Scott, Sophie Calle and Lorraine O’Grady is strong strong strong. Nick Cave makes our eyes go weepy-swoony, and Italian-Stallion Francesco Vezzoli’s campy needlepoint religiosity makes us ache for the bread of affliction. Wait, that's matzah, right? Salty Matzah (Triple-ew).
More, of course, as we see it along with “color” commentary. In the meantimes, we already have been through some misadventures.
You know that part where you hit the outskirts of Houston, and I-10 starts to move like a parking lot? Well, we had no idea that the heavens would send us the theme of our trek. For lo, we beheld the Second Baptist Church (we must have missed the First) flashing the sign “HAPPY PEOPLE RUN FROM LUST!” Kate craned her neckbones expecting a follow-up message from on high. But nothing. “The sign just says that," she said, dejectedly. Andy, he said “From? Well that’s the mission of our journey – HAPPY PEOPLE RUN TO LUST!”
After passing the infamous Nosehair Trimmer building (AKA Hermann Memorial) we marked on our calendars the upcoming Quince Expo being touted by sensual billboards featuring a VGL Bichon Friese. Woof.
We would be blogging live from Sam Moon, but they don’t got no Wi-Fi. So here we are, in Lake Charles, LA (home to a notorious Austin A-gay, more on that laterz), and we’re so excited by all the Mardi Gras Folderol that we’ve scheduled an extra day to stop here on the way home. Now off to find some mudbugs or somesuch.
Next stop NOLA
Keep checkin’ here, FB and tweets for your updates. And if you want a postcard send your snail mail to gayplace@austinchronicle.com. Seriously.
Until then, we’re Fine & Dandy with Kate & Andy.
