Burger lovers, clear your Wednesdays for the foreseeable future. From now through November, chefs from across the country will be offering their best meat sandwiches at a new near-weekly pop-up series at Sí Baby-Q.
Simone Tong and pitmaster Jonathan Lagos, formerly of Terry Black’s, launched the Asian BBQ food truck Sí Baby-Q in May. It’s located on the patio of Zoé Tong, the Chinese restaurant at 1530 Barton Springs Rd. that Tong opened with Matt Hyland last year.
Tong and Lagos invite chefs from all culinary backgrounds for the burger pop-up. Next Wednesday, July 24, the series procures the coveted Emmy Burger, a staple from Hyland’s Brooklyn restaurant Emily – and that place normally specializes in pizzas. The week after, Chef Helen Nguyen of New York City Vietnamese restaurant Saigon Social will be serving the Saigon Bánh Mì.
Beginning Aug. 14, a run of Austin restaurants participate in the series. That week, Chef Dylan Salisbury of Bill’s Oyster pops up, presumably without the restaurant’s namesake molluscs. After that, the lineup includes Chinese spots Hungry Tiger (Aug. 21) and Yellow Ranger (Aug. 28), plus butcher shop Salt & Time (Sept. 11).
The series continues Sept. 25, when Chef Jay Jerrier drives down from Dallas-based pizza restaurant Cane Rosso for a steak dinner. After Nashville’s Dreamburger appears on Oct. 9, the schedule changes a bit: Chef Billy Kramer will represent Atlanta’s NFA on the weekend of October 18-20, and New York City’s Hamburger America wraps the series with a two-day appearance from Nov. 13-14.
Each event in the Sí Baby-Q Burger Pop-Up Series takes place from 4-9pm. Tickets are available in advance via Resy, or you can just walk up.
