Counter Culture Is Back, Baby!
Taco salad and Mac & Cheeze for everyone!

Talk about a comeback story! Less than six months after shuttering her beloved East Austin vegan haven, Sue Davis has brought her turquoise beauty back to life in food truck form.
Counter Culture, which quietly soft opened on May 7, joins the vegan food truck commune behind Tweedy's Bar on Fruth Street, including Zucchini Kill, Arlo's, and Milky Way Shakes. The trailer features a revamped menu, including taco salad, veggie bowls, mac and cheeze bowls, nachos, and burritos. Everything is vegan, and everything is made from scratch in-house (except for the tempeh, which is supplied by The Flying Tempeh Co.).
Counter Culture operated for more than a decade on East Cesar Chavez, but Davis opted not to renew her lease last year, citing changes wrought by COVID, gentrification, and the high cost of real estate as the primary reasons for calling it quits at the end of 2022.
The resurrected Counter Culture's current operating hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 5-11pm. Davis plans to expand the truck's hours in due time, and will eventually offer brunch. She continues to seek a brick and mortar location near Windsor Park, which sorely lacks walkable vegan dining options.
