Sala & Betty Says So Long & Farewell

Beloved restaurant calls it quits as owner Teresa Wilson retires

In a message posted to social media on July 9, the French-accented New American restaurant Sala & Betty announced that it would be closing its doors at the end of July.

The message reads: “Chef Teresa Wilson is ready to slow down and spend time with family.” With a career spanning more than four decades, Wilson started out moonlighting at Bill Miller Bar-B-Q as a single mom, then worked for 17 years at the upscale Italian restaurant Basil’s (900 W. 10th, the current home of 40 North pizzeria). In 2000, she opened fine-dining French restaurant Aquarelle on West Sixth Street with business partner Robert Brady.

When Aquarelle closed in 2011, Wilson took a few years off to devote to her family, but returned to the service industry with Sala & Betty in 2015. Located in the Ridgetop neighborhood at 5201 Airport Blvd., Sala & Betty brought a high-end ethos to a casual-dining vibe, with an absolutely divine salmon dish, a to-die-for bread pudding, and hearty signature sandwiches stuffed with french fries and wagyu beef, chicken, or pork. Even the kids menu made the elevated accessible, with a sophisticated roast chicken drumstick accompanied by french fries and wholesome green beans.

Sala & Betty’s last day will be July 30, but the building will be available for private parties during the month of August. The restaurant will hold Bastille Day celebrations on Saturday, July 16, from 4 to 9pm, with a French-inspired menu and music by Rumbullion.
