The Soup Peddler Bikes Into East Austin

“We've been searching for a location on the Eastside for many years,” says Soup Peddler owner David Ansel, “and now we've found this amazing spot. We’re excited to be neighbors with East Side Pies, Discada, and Anything’s Baked Potato, to be in a location with such culturally diverse businesses.”

You know Ansel, of course: He’s the guy who started out 18 years ago, delivering his homemade soup to a quickly expanding list of South Austin customers – delivering all of it via bicycle and his own two legs. Hell, we reminded you about his tasty success story when the company celebrated its 16th anniversary at the Alamo Drafthouse with a screening of the Marx Brothers’ Duck Soup.

And now, even with these damned ‘ronas putting a pathogenic kibosh on so much that was awesome about this town, the multi-location Soup Peddler is expanding its brothy goodness once more. “It’s thanks to Austin's support of local business during the pandemic that we’re still able to make this positive step,” insists Ansel.

The new store, at 1401 Rosewood, will be opening soon – serving up the tasty noms Monday through Sunday, from 11am to 7pm. And there’ll be even more soup options than before and three new smoothies: Maui Waui, Slackliner, and Dancing Bear. And, as if thoughts of Prince might help to keep us from the depths of intermittent despair, here comes the return of the Soup Peddler’s popular Paisley Park smoothie, too.

Ah, thank you, Mr. Ansel. This is what it sounds like when doves smile.
