Southern Smoke Collection: Cookware to Support the Community

Suddenly you’re going to be doing a lot more cooking at home now, aren’t you? And you sort of wish you’d gone ahead and bought that better set of cookware, those kinds of frying pans that the professionals work with because they hold up to so much use and abuse while also distributing heat more evenly and so on?

Yeah, well, now you can buy them – for about half of what they’d normally cost – and all the proceeds from the sale will go to the Southern Smoke Foundation, a fund for the support and assistance of people in the food & beverage community and their suppliers.
Seems incredible, sure. But WTF doesn’t seem “incredible” right now?
You might know that our local BBQ Hero Aaron Franklin is also a fierce backer of this Southern Smoke Foundation, so there’s a big bottle of legitimacy right there. You might even know that esteemed Houston-based chef Chris Shepherd is the man who started the Foundation – we reviewed his recent Cook Like a Local book right here – and he’s been all about supporting his fellow foodmongers since before he ate his first piece of brisket. And this Southern Smoke Collection cookware comes from Made In, an Austin-based company – whose knives, at the very least, your kitchen-savvy reporter here can personally vouch for – so, ah …
Look, you don’t really need convincing right now, do you? These are weird times. You’re either gonna buy some new cookware or not. But, if you are, and you want quality and you want to help our region’s hardworking foodservice-and-hospitality family at the same time, I’m suggesting that this is something you should consider.
