Austin Celebrates International Day of Peace With Tiny Pies and More

September 21 is the International Day of Peace, and Austin is celebrating the peace is love and love is food ethos by incorporating special tasty treats.

Events have been happening all month, and just today our very own Arts Editor extraordinaire, Robert Faires, hosted a City Hall press conference about the local outlet for promoting this special day, Peace Day Austin. Various ways of acknowledging what the world needs now include a moment of silence, church bells ringing across the city, concerts, lights on the Zach and Long Center facilities, conferences, and, of course, copious amounts of food.

The folks at Tiny Pies are selling tiny pies with peace symbols tomorrow and donating proceeds to the Global Austin nonprofit. Amy’s Ice Cream created a special flavor – "Peace of Cake" – with chocolate cake pieces from Baked by Amy’s, fudge swirls, and rainbow sprinkles with cold press vanilla ice cream, and it’s available through Saturday at participating locations.

And what would a celebration be without libations? El Alma concocted a Peace512 cocktail with thyme-infused agave; El Chile and Yuyo are both offering Paloma Specialty Drinks – paloma translates to dove – on Saturday.

The Austin Chapter of the United Nations Association together with Baha'i Faith Austin are hosting the 3rd annual Pathway to Peace: Feast for Peace event also happening September 21, 5-8pm. Food and beverages from various cultural origins plus activities and performances for the whole family are all available free with an RSVP.
