For the second year running, Dog Restaurant Week is returning to Austin. Co-sponsored by Edible Austin and Tito's Vodka for Dog People, the event – July 22-28 – is a weeklong chance for humans and dogs to unite in their mutual appreciation of delicious nibbles and some outside hang time.
Last year’s event was so successful that Louisville, Nashville, Santa Fe, and Albuquerque are having copycat events of their own this year. But in a city that consistently ranks among the top dog-friendliest spots in the nation, you know pooch-loving Austinites will be stepping up to make sure that this year’s iteration is the biggest and baddest of them all.
While, sadly, it's not a week where Austin restaurants exclusively offer romantic Lady and the Tramp-style meals designed just for dogs (next year, maybe), it’s a great chance for dog owners to hit the town with their furry friends and explore some of the tastiest treats our city has to offer for humans and puppers alike.
Starting with a kickoff Yappy Hour dog party at Rustic Tap on Mon., July 22, with discounted drinks and snacks for humans and pooches, Dog Restaurant Week gives dogs and their human associates access to the finest restaurant patios in Austin. Each of the restaurants will be offering a menu of house-made dog treats – like puppy pastries and beef sliders – while humans can relax and sip a featured specialty cocktail.
A percentage of all sales from Dog Restaurant Week items will go to support local animal nonprofits like Emancipet, Blue Dog Rescue, Forgotten Friends, Friends of Austin Animal Center, and Avery's Angels. It's the perfect chance to do good while kicking back and petting a few new furry friends.
Participating restaurants include:
Irene's (506 West Ave.)
Opal Divine's (2200 S. I-35)
Revelry on the Boulevard (6215 N. Lamar Blvd.)
Rustic Tap (613 W. 6th St.)
Red's Porch (4200 B Braker Ln.; 3508 S. Lamar Blvd., Round Rock: 4401 N. I-35, Ste. 2002)
