On Wednesday afternoon, May 1, Miche Bread posted a bit of surprising and heartbreaking news: The artisan bread subscription is closing up shop, its carby swan song a roasted buckwheat levain studded with forbidden rice, seeds, and Yecoro Rojo wheat. Its final appearance at the Mueller Farmers Market will be on Sunday, May 5.

Miche Bread, the five-year project of Sandeep Gyawali, helped to put artisan bread on the map in Austin, from consulting on the bread program at the Brewer’s Table to creating the Texas Mesquite Project. By embracing the Project's mission, Gyawali's local food purveyor partnerships have inspired a surge of heritage ingredients in the Austin food scene.
From the Instagram post: “Final bake for the bread subscription: Roasted buckwheat levain, Forbidden rice, seeds, and Yecora Rojo. Thanks for an amazing 5 years of community support, Austin! It has been a joy and an honor to bake for you. Last farmers market appearance will be on Sunday at Mueller.”
”Come taste this bread this evening 5-7pm @travisheightswinespirits, where it all started. There'll be some @idlewildwinesand snacks. Infinite gratitude to all of the loyal subscribers, and our community that helped this little dream grow[.]”
We have reached out to Gyawali and will update the post with new information.
