Celebrate National Drink Wine Day with The Bachelor

By Emily Beyda, February 13, 2019, 2:30pm, On the Range

We’re all sick of the pink and red hearts, so here are six things that have nothing to do with Cupid’s birthday, or whatever that holiday is all about.

The Infinite Monkey Theorem is celebrating National Drink Wine Day on Feb. 18, 4-10pm, with specials on citrus wine spritzers and $5 wine on tap. Coincidentally, for fans of gender imbalanced dating scenes (holler at us, single Austinites!) it falls on a Monday, which is when the winery hosts their weekly Bachelor watch parties complete with wine specials and a communal atmosphere to set the mood while you watch those gals fight their way towards the final rose.

Merit Coffee expanded their Austin presence with a new location on South Lamar opening in the old Stonehouse Coffee on Feb. 11. “South Lamar has become a dining destination, and we’re psyched to open on this stretch of incredible restaurants and bars in the heart of South Central Austin,” says founder Robby Grubbs.

The new location will offer the same menu as the Seaholm District café, including coffee, espresso, tea, and hot chocolate options, along with Bakery Lorraine’s baked goods, TacoDeli tacos, and pressed juices.

On Feb. 18, Uchiko will host a Secrets of Maki Rolling class in their private dining room, with Uchiko sushi chefs demonstrating proper sushi rolling techniques. They’ll teach guests how to roll their own as they test out a variety of different Uchiko-approved recipes. Snoop Dogg-level rolling skills are appreciated, but not required; sushi aspirants at all levels are welcome. The class begins at 6:30pm, and is $95 per person plus tax and tip.

Up at The Domain, Union Venture Group has just launched their new bar. Called Wonder Bar, it will replace St. Genevieve, and be oriented around installations that engage the five senses, including traditional bar games with a twist, specialty cocktails, nibbles, and Instagrammable moments to light up your feed.

Loro is expanding their weekday happy hour menu with $8 wings, starting on Monday, Feb. 11.. They’ve put their own spin on a classic bar snack, with Sriracha and Thai chilis instead of hot sauce, tallow for smoky depth, garnishes of cilantro and furikake alongside a coconut lon dipping sauce. Just the thing to line your stomach after a couple of boozy slushies.

Perry’s is celebrating their 40th anniversary by giving away a year’s worth of Pork Chop Friday lunches to a lucky social media aspirant. Throughout 2019, entrants can enter the contest by sharing a post using hashtag #PerrysTurns40 and tagging the restaurant on various social media platforms.

Be rewarded for spamming your feed with glistening meat with 52 gift cards for Pork Chop Friday Lunch, which includes a pork chop – rubbed, slow-roasted, glazed, caramelized and topped with herb-garlic butter – plus sides of whipped potatoes and homemade applesauce. No word on whether they’ll be covering your medical expenses after you eat all that pork.
