Boil Water Notice: Restaurant Closings & HEB Update

By Jessi Cape, October 22, 2018, 6:07pm, On the Range

In light of the much-discussed boil water notice issued today, many restaurants, bars, and other food purveyors have no choice but to temporarily suspend or reduce operations.

It’s worth noting that unconfirmed reports from City Council indicate that the restrictions could be in place for 5-7 more days, depending on various weather-related factors. It’s also worth noting that many hospitality industry businesses are already closed on Mondays, so an extension of water restrictions could increase the amount of temporary closings significantly, starting Tuesday, Oct. 23.

Several reports indicate that H-E-B Hancock is currently not selling produce and that the deli is closed. We’ve reached out to H-E-B for comment on that and the status of their other locations. Their Twitter feed reports that 100 trailers of water are on their way to Austin.

AISD covered or closed drinking fountains, and cafeteria menus were adjusted to include hot vegetables, fruits such as apples and oranges, and no salad bars.

Black Star Co-op has several hundred gallons of fresh water, so stop in for a free pint. Richard’s Rainwater is offering their goods for nonprofits, shelters, and schools in need.
