Travel Channel’s Food Paradise Films at Easy Tiger

It’s a running joke for most longtime Austinites that there seems to be some kind of Los Angeles-to-Texas pipeline, bringing clear-framed-glasses-wearing, flat-white-sipping young creative types from one Eastside to another. This is a much lamented fact of life here in the biggest little city, but what if, my salty friends, the pipeline went two ways?
What if it offered you a direct route, not only to L.A., but to the film industry that is that city’s bailiwick. Well, at Easy Tiger’s happy hour, Wednesday, Sept. 26, 5-8pm, you just might get your shot at a little slice of the big time.
The Travel Channel’s Food Paradise, a show dedicated to visiting must-visit eateries across the country, will be filming an episode on the patio of this local beloved bierhall and bakeshop, and they want you to be part of the action. While, in a piece of bad news for day drinkers, the patio will be closed for filming until happy hour begins at 5pm, the bakery will be open and slinging coffee and pastries all day, so you can get all juiced up on buttery tiger claws before making your big break. We hear a butter-covered chin gives you a nice soft on-camera glow.
Once the patio opens, the Food Paradise crew will be spending a few hours shooting B-roll and conducting customer interviews in the beautiful outdoor beer garden, and to celebrate (and encourage even wider on-camera smiles), they’ll be extending the happy hour specials. That means $3 local drafts, pretzels and beer cheese, as well as $5 sausage links, Whiskey Wednesday cocktails, and more.
We’re not saying that this is going to be your big break or anything. We’re just saying that there are worse things than spending a Wednesday evening sipping discounted lagers and trying not to make direct eye contact with the camera while making your hometown look good via careful adjustment of those clear-framed glasses of yours. And hey, if there happens to be a big-time producer watching with a deep appreciation for the challenges involved in artfully consuming a pint full of beer cheese, well then, Mr. DeMille, I’m ready for my closeup.
