UPDATE: Hyde Park's Dolce Vita Is Closing

By Wayne Alan Brenner, November 9, 2018, 12:48pm, On the Range

UPDATE: Dolce Vita's last day will be Sunday, Nov. 11, and they'll be open from 10am until midnight on that day.

Is this where we say, “Another one bites the dust,” Austinite?

That recent news of Threadgill’s World HQ closing, and now this. Dolce Vita, that Hyde Park gem of sweetness that the Chronicle’s Rachel Feit lauded as “a cozy, welcoming cafe with a neighborhood atmosphere that is perfectly suited to its diverse clientele.”

That miniature cafe of so much coolth and cream, right there next to Antonelli’s Cheese Shop and across from Julio’s, that gelateria in which drummer Jeremy Bruch started the foodservice part of his multipartite career, that place where the legendary Albert Huffstickler wrote so much of his poetry.

That place where your reporter once had a nigh-on lifechanging frozen confection made from Guinness Stout and shared many a fine coffee with out-of-town guests …

Well, it's been a terrific run of 26 years of tasty goodness and neighborhood camaraderie, and now soon to be history. Over and done with, over and done with.

Dolce Vita’s last day, says the venue’s Facebook page, will be "sometime in October." And, until then, they’ll be running all sorts of farewell specials. And after then …

Oh, we don’t even want to think about after then right now.

And what about you, reader? You've been around a while, right? You have some good memories tangled up in the long sweet life of Dolce Vita?
